yeah, as much as I like having options, there's just so many places to put stuff it's like why even bother. I mean for fic alone you could use LJ, DW, AO3, tumblr...
usually I just compromise but using all of them /sob
yeaaah, the best way to get in is to get an invite from a friend. I'd request one for you but it seems no new invites are currently being given out and I don't have any old ones. :c
I like tumblr for some stuff like reblogging pretty pictures, but I never used to use it to post actual fan stuff until recently because it seems like EVERYONE'S ditched LJ/DW for it. So I post things at my LJ comms and AO3 and just sort of advertise it all on tumblr.
Thank you for the thought, though! ;o;/ I'm not so distressed waiting, since I need to get to actually writing again first, lol (new goal for next year, get).
That's what I'm thinking I'd do if so, splitting anything written between sites more suited for it, then announcing it on a tumblr... more effort, but more comfortable since I can not keep up with feedback otherwise.
My tumblr's been a scrapbook of things I like to look at and cheer up with... like flowers, dogs, and pictures of the sea. ;x; Personal but distant, I don't express much of anything beyond those, or ask anything of anyone... I don't get a thrill out of that for some reason, so using it as a fandom medium is conflicting (to the point where I wonder sometimes if I'm actually one of those hipster blog types that just doesn't talk, fff).
But gosh the last few entries of mine have been a broken record of "I miss the way things were" - my nostalgia is still going strong.
yeah, I put drabbles that aren't worth posting anywhere else on my writing tumblr, but anything longer gets posted and then just linked.
haha yeah it's hard to hold a real conversation on tumblr? like sometimes I'll have a brief convo with someone using asks or whatever, but generally I just reblog fanart and silly text posts and stuff.
I do wish LJ was as active as it used to be :c or even that everyone had moved to DW or a similar blogging site. it's just hard to keep up with people when ALL they use is twitter or tumblr or the like.
Also too lazy to log out of this guy on my phone -
I'M ALWAYS AFRAID TO. I never know what I'd write about, aa....
And I'd have loved it if that huge dw exodus actually stuck, thinking back... but I'm not done trying here. ;c;
I don't have a Twitter, I don't chat it up over tumblr... by most means I'm living in quite the internet slow lane. But that's what I'm comfortable with....
haha I couldn't not have at least one Balto icon it just wouldn't be the same
I don't think anyone ever knows what to write about. I always just wander in with a vague plot outline and some characters to see what happens. Just pick something that is total self-indulgence! That's what I do. :|
Yeah, it does seem like everyone moved and then...DISAPPEARED. Or moved again to tumblr/etc. Microblogging is the thing to do now it seems. Though I confess I do spend a lot of time on plurk because of that, ha.
I'll at least consider this year... :Ia What better way to see if I can get writing legs back.
I tl;dr too much to prefer it - but just most of the time since wow YES plurk is an exception for me. But that's to do with dwrp taking over my hobby time, too -
I'm actually pretty interested in how getting things across on the internet's changed, sometimes I want to research it (and then I remember some other thing I wanted to do that night, whoops).
yessss \o/ I have absolutely no plan this year, it'll be great. several months ago I was like "I want to write lesbian superheroes" AND THAT'S PRETTY MUCH ALL I'M GOING OFF OF AT THIS POINT.
I never do enough these days to warrant tl;dr except when it comes to sharing thoughts on TV shows or something, but stupid little couple sentence updates are great for me. but oh man RP is the reason I started using plurk again, all my RP buddies were like PLURK USE IT so I did. /bad with peer pressure
dude you should research it and then write about it and then share it with me because that'd be interesting
I feel strongly that there has to be a balance between supporting the fandom platforms that you want to survive, but also actually posting in places where your voice and work will be noticed? And that's a weird balancing act. Like, I post on LJ because I can't avoid it if I want to interact with people, but hate it and try to make it clear that DW is my platform of choice over everything else. So: I would recommend picking a platform (AO3 is a great one, tumblr has a lot of problems and I wouldn't pick that one myself tbqh!, DW is obviously the one I support the most) and trying to consolidate most of your stuff there. If that's not enough for you or not working for you, then you can branch out to the others, but hopping to one platform at a time is way easier than trying to set up shop on all the platforms at once.
/cough, I think you should pick DW because I am clearly biased, but it is not the place you go to if you want feedback, because nobody ever comments here and I don't know why. AO3 is probably a better place!, but DW can be good while you wait?
This is long and stupid I'm sorry but HI I AM GLAD YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT FANDOM COME JOIN US ON DW!! And AO3 is good too! That is all I guess. ♥
DW is my first choice, too, actually! I'd really adore seeing fandom pick up here, since it's a platform I'm most comfortable with now. LJ is... strange to even keep using, but it's true between the two of them (unless you rp) it seems to just have that many more eyes still.
I want to write again like whoa, so I'm considering AO3, too - and like I said a comment or two above, I'm on an invite waiting list now....
lmao I could go on and on and on about my issues with tumblr, and sometimes I feel like I have in a bunch of vague, scattered sentences, guh - !
Where it all gets puzzling, too, on the other side of my fandom interest - with my line of study I do need to draw, and drawing things for myself would be nice to do again in spare time - but the mixed bag involved with posting art is something I just can't begin to go at length about, as far as how scary things get from an artist's perspective. :c

I can expect it January next year, jfc -
I have so many reservations about making tumblr a hub, too, yet I made side ones recently anyway, preemptively...
Though my journals are definitely things I'd like to crosspost to, yes. I've missed my old fanwork journal's name anyway.
